CELEBRATION OF LIFE COUNCIL“If you have a birthday, you have a ministry!”
Every month, Reid Temple’s Celebration of Life Council (C.L.C.) ministry hosts special fellowship activities for all church members born in that month. This creates an instant “spiritual family” for everyone who joins Reid Temple—and it can help YOU move from membership and fellowship to stewardship and discipleship. The C.L.C. also organizes volunteer teams that provide support for other ministries’ service activities so that new members can identify the ministry (or ministries) through which they can best serve the church as disciples.
Contact Sis. Carmen Ford, Ministry Leader, 301-352-0320, ext. 409, for more information on this ministry and its upcoming meeting dates and times. This ministry meets on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus.
The membership of Reid Temple, like that of every congregation of the A.M.E. Church since its founding, is divided into small organizational groups, called classes. All new or transferring members are assigned to a class after completing their reading-in process. Each class is headed by a Class Leader, who is appointed by the Pastor and trained in the history, structure, and disciplines of the A.M.E. Church. Because they report directly to the Pastor, Class Leaders help him to remain aware of the “pulse” of Reid Temple’s large congregation. And because they serve as under-shepherds or mini-pastors for their classes, they must also have a strong calling to love and serve others. Class Leaders call and listen to their members’ church- or faith-related questions and address their spiritual concerns before they become spiritual challenges. They also visit and pray with the sick, shut-in, and bereaved. This ministry meets every other month on the 1st Saturday at 9:00 am on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus.
Visit the Class Leaders' website for more details.
“Sharing God’s love through service.”
This ministry organizes the annual Community Fair held on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus grounds every summer. This enormously popular and growing public event is just one of many ways we at Reid Temple perpetuate our vision and share with God’s people the many Blessings He has bestowed upon us. It allows all the members of our congregation to fellowship with each other and members of the wider community in a wholesome, safe, and Christ-filled atmosphere. It also provides an opportunity for the church’s ministries and affiliated nonprofit organizations to set up information tables to distribute literature on their service programs and to evangelize with those who have not yet received salvation. The member and nonmember volunteers who work in and with this ministry coordinate all of the family-friendly fun, food, and festivities. They plan carefully to ensure that all can be shared free of charge to everyone who comes to the fair. They arrange the music, vendors, arts and crafts, amusements, and more that make the event so exciting and enlightening. Most importantly, they take great pains to make sure that the Community Fair provides something for everyone—from toddlers to seniors—and that everyone feels the Power and the Presence of the Lord in our ever-expanding circle of Faith. This ministry’s meeting times, dates, and locations are communicated to the church and community through flyers, emails, and other means once planning activities are underway each year. Visit the Community Fair website for more details.

GREETER'S MINISTRY”And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
With smiles, willing assistance, and kind words of welcome, our Greeters help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere that alerts all who worship at Reid Temple that the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit is in our midst. Greeters work closely with the Usher Board and with other ministries of the church, assisting in various capacities, to ensure that all Sunday and other church services run smoothly. They are expected to prepare prayerfully, arrive early, and serve courteously at the “front lines” of our sanctuary—providing high-level hospitality service to all members and visitors as they arrive. Their motto: to provide service to the body of Christ at Reid Temple so that the Excellency of the power may be “of God, and not of us” (II Corinthians 4:7).

S.H.A.R.E. : Self-Help and Resource Exchange
"Blessed are you, who help someone else, for you are also helping yourself.”
Reid Temple’s S.H.A.R.E. Ministry is a service of the Queen Jefferson Women’s Missionary Society. Through it, the church serves as a S.H.A.R.E. Ministry Host Site and part of a network of organizations and volunteers called S.H.A.R.E. D.C. that serves the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The network functions like a food co-op, purchasing frozen meats, fish, and poultry as well as vegetables, fruits, and other staples in bulk at wholesale prices—often for less than half what you’d pay at the grocery store! S.H.A.R.E. D.C. Volunteers then divide the bulk orders into equal units, called packages, and transport the packages to the Host Sites for distribution to participating individuals and families.
Reid Temple S.H.A.R.E. is affordable, accessible, and convenient. Here’s how it works:
- REGISTER: S.H.A.R.E. is open to all—if you eat, you qualify! Simply register and pay $20 for each package of food you want. Cash, money orders, Master Card/Visa, and E.B.T. cards (food stamps) are accepted.
- VOLUNTEER: Give at least two hours a month to assist the Reid Temple S.H.A.R.E. Ministry or S.H.A.R.E. D.C. in packaging or delivering orders or providing other services.
- PICK UP: Take your food receipt and volunteer service receipt to the Reid Temple Host Site and pick up your groceries. Be sure to sign up for next month!
Participants can sign up for S.H.A.R.E. distributions every 2nd Sunday after 7:15am and 10:30am services (or every 1st Sunday if a Monday holiday falls after the 2nd Sunday). S.H.A.R.E. food packages are distributed every 3rd and 4th Saturday from 8:30am to 9:30am. Sign-up and distribution activities take place on the Reid Temple-Glenn Dale Campus.Contact Sis.
