Brandon J. Felder, a Buffalo native, is a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Howard University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with Piano Emphasis and a 2015 graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, earning a Masters of Music degree in Music Education with emphasis in Jazz Studies where his final project Non-traditional Music Class Offerings: Integration of Music Technology was published and posted online.
Mr. Felder is currently the director of Choral Activities and Piano Studies at Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The Largo High School choir, in Prince George’s County, was recently selected as a 2015 GRAMMY® Signature School Enterprise Award Semifinalist— the only school in the Washington metropolitan area to receive the honor. The 65-member choir regularly performs music of various genres, such as sacred, folk, foreign language, jazz, classical, and gospel/inspirational. Prior to his appointment at Largo, Brandon was director of Piano & General Music Instruction at the Thomas Pullen Performing Arts K-8 School (Landover, MD) for eight years.
Mr. Felder also offers community service in the sacred genre as the Associate minister of music at the Reid Temple AME Church’s North Campus in Silver Spring Maryland. Felder has also served musical posts at the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria Virginia, the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, and Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington DC. Felder also served as the Artistic Associate director and Musical Director for the Washington Performing Arts Society Men, Women and Children of the Gospel Choirs Division for numerous years.
As a musician, accompanist, director/conductor and educator, Mr. Felder has performed and collaborated with some of America’s leading musical artists including Shania Twain, the late award winning American composer Marvin Hamlisch, Richard Smallwood, Stephen Hurd, Kurt Carr, Walter and Edwin Hawkins, Marvin Winans, Donald Lawrence and many other notable Grammy, Emmy, and Tony nominated artists. Mr. Felder has also performed for events hosted by President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Bonnie McElveen-Hunter and Oprah Winfrey. Brandon served as principal pianist for both of President Barack Obama’s Inaugural Prayer Services where he performed a commissioned arrangement of the spiritual “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. Mr. Felder recently served as musical director for Singer/Actress Mary Millben in Zagreb, Croatia (February 2013) for the U.S. Embassy in Croatia in celebration of Black History Month.
Brandon truly lives by Psalm 143:10, “Teach me your will, for you are my God; may your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing”. Brandon is constantly seeking to lead young people (and the young at heart) to Christ through music and open them up to a worship experience like nothing they have experienced before. Although Mr. Felder has been fortunate to obtain much success in such a short span of time, he feels there is even more in store in the near future and gives God all the Glory!
Mr. Felder is the devoted husband of LaTanya Felder, and they are the proud parents of two daughters Cadence and Olivia.
