Committees Ministries | Commissions | Committees | Auxiliaries | Classes Below are brief descriptions of the committees at Reid Temple AME Church. If you are interested in or need additional information regarding any of these committees, please contact the person associated with each committee. Community Fair (Church Picnic) The annual Community Fair provides an opportunity for fellowship and evangelism. The picnic includes a ministry fair that allows all of the various ministries of the church to distribute information regarding their particular ministry, thus providing an opportunity for members to move up in their time, talents, and treasures. Chairpersons are elected annually. James A. Parker Lay Organization The major purpose is to inform and instruct the laity on the total program of the AME Church. The Lay Organization is dedicated to preserving the history, traditions, principles, and discipline of the AME church; promoting the evangelistic, financial, and general well-being of African Methodism; and keeping forever alive the sacred memory of the founder Richard Allen. This is accomplished through education, service and interaction at the local, conference, district and connectional levels. All persons within the church are laity except ordained ministers. Committed to assist church members and programs, feeds the homeless, and provides assistance to the community, both spiritually and financially. Contact: Sis. Dorcas Hart (301) 352-0320 ext. 441 Meeting Times: 2nd Saturdays 10:30 am (Glenn Dale) Richard Allen Youth Council (RAYC) Its purpose is to enable all youth to do those things together which can be done best by all youth. It is a steering committee for all youth work and activities in the church. Composed of AME youth from 18-30 years of age. Composed of every elected or appointed officer in each youth organization group. The Sunday School class and other youth organizations shall be represented. Contact: Rev. Cary James, Jr. (301) 352-0320 ext. 456 Scholarship Committee Odessa Parker Scholarship, James A. Parker Scholarship, Reid Temple AME Church Scholarship, Lee P. Washington Book Scholarship. The Odessa and James Parker Scholarships have been established and funded by family members, friends and church donations. The Reid Temple AME Church Scholarship is funded by private individuals. Scholarships are awarded based on scholastic achievement and church and community activities. In order to qualify you must be a high school senior and a member of Reid Temple. Contact: Sis.
