Church is designed to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to "Go, teach, make disciples." In order to carry this out, we have been provided with a vision in a five-fold perspective commonly referred to as the 5-E's: Evangelism, Education, Empowerment, Expansion, and Economics. Given the various aspects of Christian discipleship, the church utilizes internal organizations of Ministries, Boards, and Committees. In order to tie each organization into the vision, each is placed under a Commission. The following commissions are representative of the five vision components for Reid Temple.
The Commission on Christian Education is interested in deepening the faith and understanding of every member. It seeks to inform members concerning their obligation to God, offers various training opportunities for the systematic growth and development of christian character. The Commission on Church Life provides many of the “behind-the scenes” services that are critical to the functioning of the church, not only during the worship service but also on a daily basis. The Commission on Evangelism and Outreach reclaims backsliders, stirs up the unconcerned, seeks the lost, leads the church as a whole in getting the people to fall in love with Christ and the Church. Commissioner: Bro. Anthony Cusack, (301) 352-0320, ext. 605
The Commission on Missions and Welfare supports members in financial need, feeds the homeless, visits nursing home,; and ministers to persons in need of spiritual deliverance. Commissioner: Bro. Robert Myers, (301) 352-0320, ext. 603
The Commission on Public Relations gathers and disseminates information of public interest to the press, radio, TV, and other legitimate media of public information. Ensures that all major activities of the church are kept in the news with information about its programs and projects. Commissioner: Sis. Sandra Thompson (301) 352-0320 ext. 602
The Commission on Christian Social Actions coordinates all activities pertaining to social, race, economic relations, and world peace. Invites political figures and other persons knowledgeable of issues concerning race, peace, and economic relations, as related to the church.
The Commission on Stewardship and Finance operates directly under the supervision of the Official Board. It is responsible for promoting and cultivating the spirit of christian stewardship. It works out a comprehensive budget for the year and presents it to the Official Board for consideration and approval. This commission is responsible for making suggestions that will ensure the church that every phase of its program for the year will be adequately under girded financially. The Commission on Worship and Liturgy spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ by ministering through song, movement (dance & mime), and communication mediums at Reid Temple A.M.E. Church. Commissioner: Sis. Marlene Burgess, (301) 352-0320, ext. 606
The Commission on Youth provides organization and activities directed to the youth of the church and community. Commissioner: Bro. Brian J. Washington, (301) 352-0320, ext. 601
